Russia proposes "vacation" for future fathers: more about the initiative

The State Duma wants to give men leave to help their pregnant spouses.

The leader of the " A Just Russia - For Truth" faction in the State Duma, Sergei Mironov, and the chair of the State Duma Committee on Civil Society Development, Yana Lantratova, sent an appeal to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova with an initiative to provide men with paid leave of up to five days to accompany their pregnant wives. A copy of the document is available to RIA Novosti.
“In order to further strengthen the institution of the family, create conditions for responsible fatherhood and increase the involvement of men in family life in the early stages of motherhood, it seems appropriate to supplement the Labor Code of the Russian Federation,” the agency reports.
Thus, the norm provides for the possibility for men to use paid leave - up to 5 days - at any time starting from the 30th week of their spouse's pregnancy to provide the necessary support.
Sergey Mironov emphasized that the implementation of such an initiative will provide women with additional support and reduce the level of stress during pregnancy.
“Such a measure will help encourage the active participation of men in family life, strengthen family values, and achieve the goals of the national project ‘Family’,” the deputy emphasized.
At the same time, Lantratova supported the goals of the national project "Family", but noted that men are often excluded from the process of expecting a child. She is convinced that the father's participation is an important contribution to the health of the family, and not just support, and that during pregnancy, full of worries and examinations, a woman should have her loved one next to her.
Earlier, Mironov put forward an initiative to introduce a new program of preferential mortgage lending for social workers, in particular doctors and teachers.
In addition, the day before, a bill was introduced to the State Duma to reduce the value-added tax on food products and other goods of social importance. The other day, KP.RU wrote that Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko said that Russia had put forward an initiative to raise the age threshold for the "youth" category to 40-45 years. This is justified by the growth of average life expectancy in the country.
